JOB TITLE:         Facilities Maintenance Technician

 

REPORTS TO:    Sergeant Anthony Gately

 

SALARY:             $39,192.38 civilian annual salary, firm/$45,167.38 sworn corrections officer annual salary, firm

 

RANK:                  Non-ranking Civilian Position/(Certified Corrections Officers may apply, if selected,
                                the position will convert to a Sworn position)

MAJOR FUNCTION:

  • This work consists of related technical duties. The variety of tasks to be performed contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to maintain agency facilities.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled building maintenance duties associated with the construction, remodeling, repair and maintenance of County structures and grounds.
  • Monitors, checks, and performs preventive maintenance activities to applicable fixtures, equipment and/or associated systems to ensure continued uninterrupted operation.
  • Maintains parts and supply inventory
  • Completes daily, weekly, and monthly inspections and minor repairs as assigned of fuel tanks; generators; fire extinguishers; HVAC systems; doors and locks; video surveillance systems; lift pumps; and maintains related logs.
  • Runs electrical, data, and coaxial cable. Repairs electronic gates and doors. Responds to after-hours outages, as assigned, to include weekends and holidays.
  • Maintains a full-time presence on the job.
  • May perform duties related to painting, carpentry, masonry, HVAC, plumbing, electric, roofing, etc.…
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of routine plumbing, HVAC, and electrical system repair principles.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials and tools used for rough and finish carpentry.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in painting interior and exterior walls, equipment and furniture.
  • Skill in the safe operation of job-related hand tools and power equipment.
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:         

 

  •    Graduation from an accredited high school, or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
  • Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
  • Must be able to operate a computer.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Working Conditions: Work has some exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, garages, etc.) or irate customers, extreme noises, odors, heights and/or dust.
  • Risk/Safety Conditions: This position has some exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, assault and battery, heavy equipment, communicable diseases, etc.). This position may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and may include completing and successfully passing medical evaluations or clearances.
  • Essential Physical Activities: Stooping, sitting, crouching, walking, pulling and/or lifting heavy objects, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pulling, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception.
