***************APPLICANTS MUST HAVE TAKEN AND PASSED THE BAT TEST BEFORE THE CLOSE OF THE APPLICATION- THE COST OF THE TEST IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE APPLICANT:

The BAT test is available at PearsonVue Testing Centers only and the cost is $39. Students must apply online and pay for the test at www.pearsonvue.com.

If selected from interview the applicant must pass the entire pre-hire processing and receive final sheriff approval. If approved, the applicant will be hired as a Corrections Recruit.
Processing includes: selection from interview, Sheriff Interview, full FDLE background, CVSA (voice stress analysis), medical exam/drug screening, psychological exam/evaluation and
final Sheriff approval.

After hire, while awaiting the beginning of the academy, the recruit will be required to work in a non sworn position to achieve the required 40 hours a week.
The salary while in the non sworn position is $35,000. The recruit must pass the BMST and be accepted to the Corrections Academy to continue employment.

Once the academy begins the recruit will become a TEA and will receive the annual salary of 41,543.92.

Once the academy begins the recruit will attend the academy. If the recruit does not meet the required 40 hours each week during academy time the recruit will be assigned to
work to make up the hours. If the academy is closed and it is not a Sheriff’s office recognized holiday, the recruit will be required to work. The recruit will attend the academy
Monday - Friday and will be required to work one shift day over the weekend each week. Upon hire the recruit will receive a paycheck each pay period, accrue annual/sick leave,
will be enrolled in Florida Retirement (FRS), and will be offered the opportunity to enroll in health/dental/vision/life insurance plans.
Salary is non negotiable.
Once the recruit passes the SOCE (State Officer Certification Exam) the annual salary will increase to $47,518.92. Shift work employees are
paid holiday pay of $2,838.23 for a total salary of $50,357.15.

Recruits will be required to sign a 2 year agreement. This agreement requires the recruit to complete the academy course and pass the state exam to continue employment.
Should the recruit resign before completing the academy/SOCE, or before completing two years of employment with the Sheriff’s Office , AFTER passing the SOCE, the recruit will be required to pay back to the Sheriff’s Office all academy costs.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Be at least 18 years of age

Possess a high school diploma or GED from an FDLE recognized accredited school

Have taken and passed the BAT for Corrections within the past four years

If selected must pass the Basic Motor Skills Test with an instructor from St Johns River
State College Academy (will be scheduled by the Sheriff's Office).

Must possess a valid Florida Driver License

Be a Citizen of the United States

Must not meet any of the disqualifications as indicated in the application

Must be interviewed and then selected by staff to
continue in the process

BENEFITS:

  • Annual Salary is $35,000 while in a non sworn position. $41,543.92 as an academy recruit, once certified is $47,518.92 base, with the addition of holiday compensation of $2,838.23 for a total salary of $50,357.15
