Description
CORRECTIONS OFFICER
Provides supervision, care and correctional treatment of inmates. Maintains the security of the institution, contributes to the health and welfare of the inmates and the promotion of good public relations. Enforces the rules and regulations governing the facility security, inmate accountability and inmate conduct to ensure judicial sanctions are carried out and inmates remain in custody. From time to time, may be authorized to carry firearms. These are just a few examples of the duties required of the position.
 
As an employee in the Correctional Facility, is subject to arduous, adverse and stressful working conditions and environment. May be subject to hostile or life-threatening situations (i.e., assaults and escape attempts). This position is shift work, twelve hour shifts to include working nights, holiday and weekends. May be required to work irregular hours, unusual shifts and unexpected overtime.
 
Requirements:

AS NEEDED THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE MAY SPONSOR FOR THE ACADEMY. TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION FOR POSSIBLE SPONSORSHIP YOU MUST HAVE TAKEN AND PASSED
THE BAT FOR CORRECTIONS WITHIN THE LAST FOUR YEARS AND MEET THE OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AS PROVIDED.

  • Must be currently certified in the State of Florida as a Corrections Officer, be in a current academy basic course for Corrections, or attending a crossover from LE to CO course
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Must possess a valid High School Diploma or GED
  • Must not meet any of the disqualifiers  as indicated in the employment application
  • Must be at least 18 years of age as of November 20, 2019

YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR $300 PER YEAR OF EXPERIENCE PAY, UP TO $3,000 IF YOU HAVE
WORKED AT ANOTHER AGENCY AS AN FDLE CERTIFIED CORRECTIONS OFFICER, HAVE
LEFT THAT AGENCY WITH NO MORE THAN A 12 MONTH BREAK IN SERVICE, AND LEFT
WITH HONORABLE CONDITIONS
