PUBLIC SERVICE ASSISTANT-VOLUNTEER
The Public Service Assistant (PSA) is a civilian position, intended to augment the sworn member force of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
PSA’s will perform a variety of services that do not require law enforcement authority. This position is a volunteer position, no salary and
no benefits.
PSA’S do not have arrest powers- and will not carry a weapon while performing assigned duties, except OC spray (agency issued - on duty use only).
PSA’S may be routinely dispatched to specific types of calls for service that may include:

PSA’S may be routinely dispatched to specific types of calls for service that may include:
- Funeral Escorts
- Traffic control at vehicle crashes
- Traffic control at fixed intersections
- School crossings, if currently certified as a school crossing guard.
- Patrol specified areas
- Home security checks
- Neighborhood checks
- Community notifications of sexual offenders/predators
- Public or highway assistance
- Assistance to a deputy at crime scenes as long as there is no danger or risk of injury to the PSA
- Serving non-enforceable civil process
Must be able to:
- Communicate both in writing and orally
- Walk, stand, bend and stoop
- Ability to lift/carry a minimum of 50 pounds
- Able to sit/stand for long periods of time
- A valid Florida Driver License
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to pass a physical examination and drug screening
- Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation
- Must be able to administer CPR
